Anthropic Merges Claude Chat and Cowork Into One Workspace
Anthropic is combining Claude’s conversational and task-execution products, adding native document, presentation, and design workflows inside one interface.
Anthropic has merged Claude Chat and Claude Cowork into a single Claude experience, allowing users to move from short questions to longer-running work without switching products. The unified workspace keeps existing chats, projects, artifacts, connectors, and skills while adding native workflows for documents, presentations, and design mockups.
The product change reflects a shift in how AI assistants are being packaged. Chat remains the entry point, but the commercial value increasingly comes from delegated work: drafting a report, converting it into slides, editing individual elements, and continuing after the user closes the laptop. Anthropic says users can comment on a slide, modify a document directly, and present the finished deck from the same environment.
This is not a new foundation model release, but it is a significant platform decision. By collapsing separate surfaces, Anthropic is trying to make Claude a persistent work environment rather than a model accessed through a chat window. It also puts the company more directly against Google’s integrated productivity stack and Microsoft’s Copilot products, where documents, presentations, and collaboration are already connected to organizational data.
The important constraint is that product unification does not automatically solve trust, permissions, or workflow quality. A single interface can reduce friction, but it also concentrates more actions and data in one agent. Anthropic’s bet will be judged by whether users can understand what Claude changed, which connectors it used, and where approval is still required. The launch matters because the assistant market is moving from model selection toward control of the work surface around the model.
