Alibaba opens QwenWork enterprise agent to public beta
Alibaba merged three internal agent products into QwenWork, a suite pairing desktop, cloud and team agents on top of the new Qwen3.8 model.
Three products folded into one
Alibaba began a public beta of QwenWork (千问办公) on Monday, hours after the Qwen3.8 launch. The product consolidates three previously separate efforts — QoderWork, MuleRun and Wukong (悟空) — into a single enterprise agent suite, and Alibaba claims it is the first product to combine desktop-side agents, cloud-side agents and team-collaboration agents in one package.
The suite runs on Qwen3.8, the flagship generation released the same day. A web client and a standalone PC client are open now; entry points inside DingTalk on both desktop and mobile are described as arriving soon. New accounts receive 2,000 credits, with daily login top-ups of 500 to 2,000 credits during the first week.
Aimed at company workflows, not individuals
Alibaba's framing is explicitly enterprise. Beyond drafting documents and building slides, QwenWork is pitched as connecting to internal databases and existing business workflows, and it introduces organisation-level Skills — reusable, packaged procedures a team can define once and share, so an agent behaviour becomes company infrastructure rather than one person's prompt.
That design mirrors where the agent market has moved this year: the bottleneck for enterprise deployment is rarely raw model capability but the plumbing of permissions, data access and repeatable procedure. Splitting execution across a local client that can touch files on the machine, a cloud runtime for long tasks, and a shared layer for team coordination is an attempt to cover all three at once.
Why it matters
Alibaba is now shipping the full stack in a single day — a frontier model, a coding surface, and an office agent that consumes both. That vertical bundling is the same strategy Microsoft runs with Copilot and Google with Workspace, but priced and distributed through DingTalk into China's enterprise base, where Microsoft 365 has little reach. For Chinese firms weighing agent adoption, the practical question shifts from which model to license to whose workspace to standardise on. The public beta also gives Alibaba a fast feedback loop on Qwen3.8's long-horizon behaviour under real corporate workloads — exactly the evidence its model launch claims but cannot yet prove at scale.
